Coaching Youth Football – Offensive Line Cut Blocking

There is a controversial blocking technique called a cut. Over the years cut blocks have been labeled as “dirty” by many coaches and players. A cut is very effective and if done safely it can be very effective against the defense. No block should ever be made with malicious intent to injure any player. Please make sure you check with the league rules, making sure cut blocks are allowed.

Offensive lineman will use a chop, or cut blocking style. A cut, or chop is a block that is hit below the waist of the defender(i.e., from the front of the defensive player) in an attempt to bring the defenders to ground, making them unable to pursue a running back for the short time needed for the back to find a gap in the defense. The reason this technique is frowned upon is because if the offensive lineman hits the defenders in the knees, he can hurt him.

The San Francisco 49ers of the 1980s and early in the 1990′s were famous for their cut technique(and leg-whipping

Super Bowl XXV

Background

NFL owners voted to award Super Bowl XXV to Tampa during a May 20, 1987 meeting. This was the second time that Tampa hosted the game; the city previously hosted Super Bowl XVIII on January 22, 1984.

The Bills and the Giants entered the game using contrasting styles: While the Bills led the league in total points scored (428), the Giants led the league in fewest points allowed (211).

New York Giants

Main article: 1990 New York Giants season

The 1990 New York Giants were built to head coach Bill Parcells’ specifications of “power football”: a powerful defense and an offense that sustained extremely long drives. The Giants’ defense ranked second in the league in fewest total yards allowed (4,392) and first in fewest points allowed, and boasted three Pro Bowl selections: defensive tackle Erik Howard, and linebackers Pepper Johnson and Lawrence Taylor. The secondary was led by defensive back Everson Walls, an offseason acquisition

BetRepublic.com NFL Power Rankings

Any given Sunday was the case last week in the NFL, as the Oakland Raiders, Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals all sent the mighty tumbling to the mat. And Washington probably should have beat the Saints, but the outcome of that game epitomizes the “day late, dollar short” story that will cap Jim Zorn’s short career once the season is over.

The Bengals strengthened their foothold in the top five of our rankings, but the next two weeks (at Minnesota, at San Diego) will show us Cincinnati’s real playoff potential.

Check BetRepublic.com for tons of free picks each week and our innovative sports betting TV show every day.

Week 14 NFL Power Rankings

1. New Orleans Saints –WR Robert Meachem averaging one TD per game in last five and the strip-score vs. Redskins was testament to mentality of Sean Payton’s team. There is no quit.

2. Indianapolis Colts – Key

NFL Power Rankings Week 13 2009 Released

NFL Power Rankings Week 13: Last week I published my Week 12 NFL Power Rankings. We have examined the every team in the league and now our week 13 NFL power rankings have been published. Let’s get going with the NFL Power Rankings for Week 13. New Orleans Saints remain on top for week 13 NFL power rankings. Here are some my NFL Power Rankings for Week 13.

Here are some NFL Power Rankings for Week 13 (Last week’s ranking is in brackets):

1 (2) New Orleans Saints (10-0) After seeing the Saints dismantle the Pats, it’s hard not to be excited about the Saints. Not as excited as Jon Gruden, but nobody gets as excited as Jon Gruden.

2 (1) Indianapolis Colts (11-0) Can the team go 16-0? Somewhere Mercury Morris is crapping his pants.

3 (3) Minnesota Vikings (10-1)
Brett Favre threw for a season-high 392 yards against the Bears. How long can he keep this up? Read more..

Down the Stretch They Come

Down the Stretch They Come

As the National Football League enters the final quarter of its regular season, the contenders for championships have been distilled from the mash of 32 teams. The fans of the dregs must come to grips with their fate. Their only solace is to check out the college bowl games to see whom their teams might draft in April.

American Football Conference
East Division: New England has stumbled the past two weeks but still leads the division by one game over the Jets and Dolphins. The Patriots split the meetings with both contenders so their game at Buffalo will weigh heavily when the tie-breakers are applied. A loss to the Bills would give Miami the tie-breaking advantage over New England. The Jets could easily make up ground versus the putrid Buccaneers, injury-riddled Falcons then probably complacent Colts. This race looks to go down to the final game of the regular season.

North Division: Only four losses to close out the regular season would prevent

2010 Tennessee Titans: NFL Schedules, Predictions and Odds

The Tennessee Titans were the top seed in the AFC in 2008 only to fall flat on their face out of the gate last year and miss the playoffs. The Titans will be looking to return to the post season and have a solid shot to get off on the right foot with an opening game on the 2010 NFL schedule at home against the Oakland Raiders on September 12th. It gets much tougher on September 19th when the Titans host the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of the NFL betting favorites to win the AFC conference. The Titans will then travel to New York to take on a Giants team also looking for a comeback season on September 26th. Online sportsbooks have the Titans 30-1 longshots in 2011 Super Bowl odds to win the championship, 14-1 to win the AFC conference and have an over/under regular season win total of 8.5 UNDER (-125).

Tennessee returns home for the 3rd time in 4 weeks as they will host the Denver Broncos on October 3rd. Tennessee opens the second quarter of the

NFL ? Tim Tebow makes his NFL debut with Denver Broncos

The NFL is not too big of a stage for this years No. 1 NFL draft pick. The Florida Gators graduate made his first touchdown in the last play of the Denver Broncos appearance against the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday. All though his team lost, he was able to get into the end zone on the final play of the 33-24 defeat against the Bengals.

There was a lot of boos when he first came into the field sometime late in the third quarter. It seems as if football fans in Ohio have not forgotten what Tim Tebow did to both Ohio State and the University of Cincinnati in not so far away bowl games. He had completely smacked down their defenses with very beautiful aerial raids back when he was one of the most dominant quarterbacks in the NCAA college football.

Now as a pro, he should be able to find a spot among his peers. And yet, despite all the boos, the fans that had filled the Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati Ohio, knew well that they were experiencing the debut
